Hi! I found you guys a few weeks ago and I'm sure glad I did! Thought I was alone out here hoarding metals. I just started with pennies a couple of months ago. I spent most of my time on silver and gold, but now that those are in place I'm working hard on my copper. Thanks for all the interesting reading

Been watching the forum for several weeks, and finally managed to get an active account registered (there were some issues). I'm in Canada.

I have long collected PM in small quantities. Stumbled on coinflation.com a few months back and have been sorting Nickels by and off and on since Feb 08.

I sure am not going to get rich at this, but it makes for a diversion while watching tv. Where else can you find an investment with zero downside and a real value of 1.2X to 2.4X your cost?

I generally do bank drivebys picking up 10 rolls (a poor haul) to 400 rolls (8 boxes that my CU was happy to unload).

I reroll all the year 2000+ and deposit them with other deposits, which has never caused any issues.

Hello, my name is Paul and I look through pennies.

Just 11 more steps

Actually we buy and sell a lot of items and attend a lot of auctions and yard sales, and I have always bought a lot of silver, both as bullion and as art. I have always built up a nice little hoard and sold when it went up. Recently, I have started scrapping a bit at the auctions and yard sales and am intrigued by this forum. I sorted my first $25 box and had about a 38% ratio, so now I'm hooked.

Thanks to all of the informative and entertaining posts...

I never did fill this subject in.
I live in the Phildelphia suburbs and have been a coin collector going back to about 1976. Around 1981 I had to give it up so the family would have some $$, and rather unfortunately disposed of most of the better pieces. About 1 year ago, the subject came up and somehow, the old magic came back albeit with a little more reality. I'll never have that full set of unc morgans I used to be working on. I've been a PM speculator off and on but was out since about 2000. Once I opened my eyes in '07 and saw what was going on, I became a PM horder again and fast! Gold, silver, copper. I owe thanks to many of you folks here for getting me interested in copper, but my first true love will always be silver.

NewsFlash!! Metals have peaked for the generation = i.e. 20+ years.
The currency is NOT going to be gold!!
To realize the value of these metals any value of metals will need to be liquidated into the common currency first - which currently is the Dollar where I live. Otherwise all you have is some metal!!! The value of metals, to repeat, has PEAKED!
Please do not lose any more of your MONEY. If you gained on the big runup, TAKE YOUR PROFITS WHILE THERE ARE STILL SOME LEFT. The market is returning, re-valuing, and re-stabilizing.

I never posted here either.
I started into metals earlier this year when I scrapped a bunch of copper that I had. I wanted to turn my scrap money into metal and so I bought some silver and gold. Then more silver. Then I got hooked on these copper pennies. I know have machines and over $500/wk in penny orders.

Thanks Realcent.

Now why would you join a penny and nickel hoarding board to tell us this??? I'll stick to mostly getting my nickel and copper at about 1/2 price thank-you.

Hi, folks.

I've just discovered the forum in the past few days, and I've learned a ton already, just scanning old posts. So, thanks!

I've been conducting some "investigative" sorting, by hand, trying to decide if it makes sense to acquire some equipment and crank it up a bit. I think it does make sense, although it looks like HCBTT may be in my corner of the world, so the pennies may be vanishing rapidly around here ;^) I have modest goals, however, so...

The forum is a great idea, full of a wealth of info and, obviously, a bunch of good people. Glad I found it.

I'll take my chances with metal. Uncle Sam has an unfettered ability to print new paper dollars, but there is a market price for metal which limits Sam's ability to make more coin. So I will go out on a limb and predict that the government will continue to deficit spend. I should not have to explain why that will weaken the dollar. As the dollar weakens, one can exchange metal into an increasing number of dollars to do things like pay for gas or milk or retire debt. So you are correct that while your savings is in metal your spending generally will be in dollars.

Hi.

I'm in Canada; the Ottawa capital region, mostly interested in Cdn nickels at this time, before the Ni and Cupro disappear.

I've been trying to register for 2 weeks and registration was closed. Why was it closed ?

I sent some emails to Ryedale Andrew and he let me know registration was working again, so I quickly signed up.

Ni saved is Ni earned.

Welcome mikereidis. The reason I closed the registration was because we had a a rash of porno spam at the site from several new members. I'm guessing it was the same guy with several I.P. addresses. I hope he or they have moved on now...........guys who hoard pennies & nickels don't need any dam porno! We get all the girls we want.

Hi All- I've been reading for some months now and recently decided to sign up. Currently I'm a hand sorter who just made it to the 1 million cents searched mark. In addition to copper and wheats I also focus on varieties (doubled dies, etc).

Hello,

Been watching and reading for a couple months so I thought I'd give this sorting/hoarding thing a try. First time out got $25 worth and ended with 35%, 1-43' and a Merc. dime. I'm hooked. Nothing to shout about, $20-$25 a week, but it's fun doesn't cost me anything and who knows?

Thanks for letting me in.

ps. Live in Upstate NY

You're kidding, right?

Hello, all I've decided to join after reading for quite a while on here. I manily have been setting aside copper pennies and silver (when I happen to find it) out of my pocket change. I'm thinking about from time to time picking up a few rolls of pennies to just check that whole sorting thing out. Oh well, hope to really enjoy it here.

3 Blue Stars.. What do you mean"nothing to shout about?" Very few serious hoarders here have ever found a silver dime in a penny roll and even less have found a Merc. I think there is only one other hoarder here besides myself that has found one of those. So you are in a very exclusive club. 35% is a great percentage too. Welcome to the forum.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!

AGCollector, Welcome that is some serious sorting even with a Ryedale, I can't imagine doing that many by hand.

COPPER - the "poormans" precious metal!!!

I am just lightly grazing. If you are in this area just come on over and use my equipment. I have more equipment in the penny processing center than I can run all by myself anyway.
