| New to site. Just registered as I have been lurking the past few weeks. Lots of like minded thinkers here. Sounds like some hard core collectors. I am a closet collector(low key) everyone I share with thinks I've lost it. Feel at home here though. You fellow penny collectors sure have a lot of great advice I hope I can benefit from without stepping on any toes. I hope to be able to contribute some input that helps all of you as well. |

I am a silver nut who sorts spare change only. Its not worth my time to go full on into penny sorting, but I certainly understand why you all do it!
Right now I'm turning over some of my silver inventory. I sold on a high (around $20.10/ounce) and may pick up some more during this correction (right now it's at $19.59/oz.) Over all, I'm bullish on PMs over the long run. I'm predicting stagflation - sluggish domestic growth, high inflation and healthy economies abroad.
I'm an amateur economist (studied it in college.) I don't buy into protectionism, fiat currency, the gold standard (really, I don't think the government should be involved in money at all,) Republicans, Democrats or taxes.
I'm 27, married, and have a 10 month old daughter.
Hmmm... that's all for now! |

I also have been lurking in the shadows - just now introducing my self. I'm 36 married, 3 daughters - you'd better believe I need a side gig / hobby.
Anyway, I bought a bunch of silver several years ago at 5.50 / oz - loving the 20+ price today. Recently I've started sorting and hoarding copper as well. I find this forum very interesting and insightful. Thanks to all who have shared valuable information ... I'll be sure to give back to the forum and contribute useful information as well in the coming weeks.

Hi. I don't know anything. I hope some of you do.
I always avoided collecting things. Even when a friend pointed out that every copper penny was worth twice its face value I wasn't interested. Too much work. He told me I could get a Ryedale machine to sort them. Then I decided it was worth my while. I guess now I'll have to learn which ones have collector value and stuff like that. |

I collected coins as a kid. My Dad worked at Attica Prison and was liked by some of the inmates. They sent him bags and bags of stamps. That was in the 80's. Many of the stamps were from the 30's and some from the 20's. Wish I knew where they went to.
I have always held onto the odd coin, but never collected. My grandpa passed away a few years back. He had a small collection. It got me going. My brother buy silver and told me about people going to the bank for halves. He is too proud to do it, but I tried it and bought 20 silver halves for $10 at his local branch. That got me hooked. The halves have dried up a bit in the last 18 months, so I figure that I can invest in some copper.

| P.S. Now when I go to the banks and ask for halves and they don't have any I always ask for at least $10-20 in pennies. Why leave empty handed? |

Hi, I'm in the Navy, retire this year. After almost 20 years of getting paid and having the best time of my life, I'm not looking forward to "working" for a living. There is no way in heck I'm gonna be a "9 to 5'er" for the rest of my life. So, maybe recycling will keep me from that.
I've always been interested in looking for things, almost a treasure hunter mentality. From the recycling stuff, to hunting deer, to my son and me walking around our neighborhood looking for different kinds of bottle caps. It is an absolute thrill for me to go out on a search, regardless what it is. I do however, like to make money. That's the biggest reason why I recycle. I love the earth, want to help the environment, etc etc, but honestly it's mostly the money. Which brings me to the copper penny hoarding. This is interesting to me. I'm definitely gonna start looking at every penny I get. I'll even save them. But, with me, I don't like to collect things, so it might be kinda hard. Do people buy these pennies when you have enough to make it worth their while? I'd definitely be into that. I don't know if I could hang onto them waiting for one of the two scenarios to happen. I hope it's scenario #1 by the way.
Finally, I just looked in my Chief's desk. He always keeps change in there. He had about 15 pennies. 1 1963, and 1 1972!! Don't worry, I traded him a nickel for 5 pennies. I guess I'm on my way!?!? |

| Welcome USNavySubSailor - I spent 4 years in the US Navy myself from '90-'94 - did a North Atlantic cruise on the USS Inchon in Feb, March, April - BIG seas (30 ft swells). Feel sorry for the guys in frigates in that stuff. |

How are you? I couldn't imagine those seas. I tell you what's crazy, is getting sea sick when we're already submerged. I've been through that a few times. I couldn't imagine life on a target;) That's what I like about submarines though, we can always go deeper and get away from the rough sea states. |

I just left my last submarine, The Uss Jimmy Carter. I'm on shore duty now, at a comm center. I retire in November. Not looking forward to it! Submarines are getting more and more technical everyday. I remember when all our message traffic was on paper, and we used to do morse code. Now they have chat, sailor email, etc. Most of the new sailors have never even heard of morse code! Hahaha |

Glad to join a group of like mind people, I hope I will have some thing from my travels in the US Navy & my craze for coin collecting. I have been a nut with pennys of all types. Everyone knows the value of the US Dollar is going down - the only thing that keeps its value is metals - In the early 1900's and ounce of Gold bought a real nice suit - Gold then was around $20 an ounce. Hi All...Im new to hoarding and somewhat new to CRH'ing...found out about CRH'ing thru another forum...my main hobby is recreational gold mining.
I own some land where they used to hydraulic mine and work it every week or two. Its over a couple hours from where I live so I cant get up there as much as I would like...and with gas prices like they are it costs us $75 round trip...so we gotta find that much in gold just to break even on the gas!
Anyways, I'll be ordering one of Andy's machines tonight and will start getting me some pennies.
My bank manager who I know pretty well thinks Im crazy..."I thought you were looking for gold, now pennies?"...Haha
So nice to meet you folks...I'll be reading all the old threads and posting here and there as I learn more...thanks for sharing all that you do.
P.S...I think zinc prices are gonna go thru the roof soon and will be 10x more valueable than copper. If you guys were smart, you'd dump the copper pennies and save the zinc. If you do wise up, let me know where you're dumping those coppers at so I can make sure I don't get your dumps.
