I'm having my wisdom teeth out, all four of 'em, on the 7th. I'm getting general anesthesia, and there will be a few days afterwards when I'm going to want to rest. In preparation, I ordered 8 boxes from Wachovia, four of pennies and four of nickels. It's my incentive for getting this procedure done, which I've been putting off since 2000 due to sheer anxiety; I won't open any rolls until those teeth are finally out.

The boxes were all printed with the Brinks name and logo. The coins were all of mixed age, wrapped in clear plastic. They let me use their cart to wheel them out to my car. As I left the bank, I noticed a Loomis armored truck parked outside. I thought my boxes were Brinks. Now I'm confused!

I also picked up one roll of Madison dollars and one roll of Monroe dollars.

Sorting reports pending...

I had to have only one tooth out a while back. I like you was freaking out. By taking 4 valerian root caps before I went in, I didn't run around like a scared 4 year old. Took a little edge off the anxiety. You can find valerian root at almost any store, including Wal-Mart, in the herbal section. It's also good when you're having a hard time sleeping at night, and don't want to wake up the next day feeling doped up.

Cerulean, last Jan. ('07) I had them all pulled as well. While I didn't get any anesthetic, it wasn't that bad. You'll be fine. I chose last year to be my dental year. Spent almost $6k in my mouth, and it is the best thing I ever did. Do you have more dental work planned? Good luck at the dentist and in your searching your boxes.

I'm so sick over pennies....I frequently trade a dime or two for the whole "take-a-penny" container if sufficient coppers exist. That will get you some odd looks.

Good luck. I agree put dental work off as long as possible.

The longer you put it off, the worse it gets. The out of pocket cost also goes way up. Most dental insurance is crap. Usually very little coverage. You only have one set of teeth....

p.s. Wow what a pro-dental rant! I'm not in any way in the dental business. I did have a perfect check up on Tuesday though, no cavities! I sound like a little kid.

Not to hijack your thread Cerulean, but here is what I had done last year from January through June.
Six teeth pulled, including the four wisdom. (One visit. Dentist wanted to do them in two visits but I insisted on one. Just wanted it over with.)
Two root canals.
Three crowns.
Five fillings.

All with only getting shots, (a lot of them at that!). I have a high tolerance for pain, and my dentist is great. I have never been put under, and I wasn't about to do it for the first time at the dentist. My health insurance is great, but my dental is only $1000 per year. That doesn't go very far, hence my almost 6K out of pocket. Even received discounts for paying for each visit in full every time. Oh well, it was definitely worth it. Wasn't all that bad really. I'm not into taking pills and such, so there was a little soreness for a few days. Cerulean, you'll be fine. The pennies should be therapeutic....

i had four of my five!! wisdom teeth surgically removed 4 years ago. had to be put clear under. it was around $1500 without insurance if i remember right and another $1000 to go after the fifth so i decided to keep it. hard enough to afford basic health insurance so dental is out of the question for me. this surgeon was amazed at the small extra tooth above and behind my top one. made me feel like some sorta freak. lol

The first six hours were the roughest. It got better after that.

But I am concerned about some swelling I'm experiencing under the right side of my jaw. Most sources say the swelling should be done within a week, and it's still there six days later. Jaw muscles have stiffened up too. Can't open wide enough for a slice of bread.

Sorting the boxes, too. Almost through the first box pair (pennies+nickels). Notable finds so far include a 1943-P war nickel and a 1920 cent that's almost worn smooth.

I always take calcium pills for anything regarding teeth. Three pills with each meal for a few days reduces pain considerably. Once I put off a trip to the dentist for three years that way. That was a mistake because after three years the tooth couldn't be saved. But at least it didn't hurt all that time.

Ouch! I had two of mine out about ten years ago. They were totally impacted so it was lights out for me. I was worthless the rest of that day and just slept. After that it wasn't to bad.

Are you throwing that out?

had one pulled and got a "dry socket".
they say its when the blood doesnt clot in the hole right and is the most painful thing.
THEY ARE RIGHT...the most painful thing ive experienced...it happened on a sunday, three days ofter the surgury, i had my girlfriend call the dentist at home and he opened up his office to see me on sunday...all he did was put a gauze pad with clove oil on it into the hole in my jaw, and the pain was instantly gone. moral of this story? get clove oil if you need a tooth pulled. where can you get better tooth advice than a penny forum?

I had my wisdom teeth pulled last year. It was not fun, but I managed. Don't take any chances with the healing process. Follow doctor's orders.

Have fun sorting, remember to wash your hands, and feel better!

I had to get all four of mine taken out last monday. It actually wasn't as bad as everyone told me. I got over the pain quickly, especially that I had to go to work the next day.

Recent studies have shown that the health of your mouth is a reflection of your overall health.

I put off some work too long--ended up getting the tooth pulled (after a LOT of pain). Now I try and take care of my teeth. But I still don't like going to the dentist.
