I just started last weekend and have sorted $125 by hand so far with another $75 waiting at home. Should be able to finish those up this weekend.

But within a week or two at the outside I'll be buying a Ryedale, then trying to push through at least $500 a week, maybe up to $1,000 if I get really serious.

As soon as I start selling copper to recoup some costs I'll see about trying to do more if possible.

Hoarding a ton of copper works out to what...not quite $3,000 face value of the pennies?

At a 20% copper/zinc recovery rate that would be ~$15,000 total pennies to sort.

Whoa. This is gonna be fun!

It is definitely a marathon and not a sprint. I figure that for most people getting $10,000 face of coppers (sort maybe $40,000 face) in a year is a challenge even with a Ryedale and near impossible without one.

Instead of sorting those other 3 boxes by hand just spend the time acquiring more boxes of pennies. Then you can sort them all very quickly once you get your Ryedale. My only regret on getting my Ryedale was that I waited before ordering it. The sooner you get this fantastic machine the better!

Yes, 300,000 copper pennies is a ton if they are US coppers. You are right.. it is fun!

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!

HCBTT, no wonder your tons take so long to build up. Perhaps it should be Hoard Copper by the TEN Tons.
Just teasing of course, but I think that Ton is closer to 300,000 coins.
I just can't let this slide you know Andy

And here I thought all along I was just sorting too slow.

Those are LONG tons, Andy! .. not short tons.

Got distracted right in the middle of the post by work so I threw in a couple of extra zeros for good measure.

Maybe I was just thinking of how many tons I would like to have.

Right now I have time to sort about 14 boxes a week ($350 a week). With a Ryedale I could easily sort more, but I would be limited to about 25 boxes a week because that is the most zincs that I can reasonably dump a week.

Assuming 25 boxes a week at 28% copper and 1 penny profit per copper, a Ryedale Apprentice would pay for itself after finding 37,900 pennies or in about 2 weeks. Any "hobby" investment that can pay for itself in 2 weeks is pretty darn cheap... IMHO

So what is the cut-off point to make a Ryedale worthwhile? 5, 10, 15 boxes a week? Its impossible to say for sure because it depends on how long you plan on sorting pennies and how long there will be pennies in ciculation to sort.

No matter what I bet it would be a blast to use one.

Well, what's your $35 invention? Do tell!

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

When I give my two cents, they're always copper!

I use my ryedale and I am not a big time sorter. I like it for the time I save by sorting out the zinc. I then hand sort the copper for wheats and s mint mark. Great time saver.

Be careful with using a Ryedale. They are VERY addictive.

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

Jonflyfish, I've had one before. After selling it I had withdrawals for months...(I'm only half joking...of course.)

It's the other half that gives cause for concern! Cheers
