Just got a $25 box of 2005 uncirculated pennies. I see on pcgs that the highest quality 2005 penny can go for $750 each. Are there any opinions on this? What kind of money can I get and are there any takers?

PCGS pricing is for PCGS graded coins.
I would sell the box on Ebay...

eBay is the best and most fluid price guide out there. Check "completed sales" on THE EXACT SAME item and you will get a very good idea!
Do not check the "PCGS" price guide for ANYTHING. That thing is off by 50%+ in both directions all over the place. I honestly don't even know how they arrive at their numbers.
And certainly don't check the PCGS guide for something not certified :)
The difference between "uncirculated" (like you have) and "certified" is a LOT. On average you would need several boxes to find one cent worth more than the COST to certify! And that cent would only be worth 20 to 40 dollars.
To find a super coin worth $500+ would be exceedingly rare and those are generally only found via mint set cut outs. |

Put on special gloves.. check each cent under high magnification to see if you can find a "perfect" one. Then you would send it in to PCGS, along with a healthy fee for slabbing. If by some miracle (Do you believe in miracles?) the coin comes back in a slab graded MS-70 by the service (yours will most likely come back MS-63) then you have a marketable coin. Of course it will not trade for what they are saying it will. You would then place it in an auction like ebay and hope 2 folks really want this perfect coin and bid it way up. Then after the extraction of exhorbitant fees by the auction company, you might net a little profit.
Or you could save yourself a lot of time and aggravation by just blowing it out here for a little over face plus the $10 shipping charge. Welcome to the forum.  |

Don't sell the box intact on ebay. Come up with some good copy stating exactly the potential of finding any individual MS70 coins and appeal to their greed  |

In your copy be sure NOT to mention what Hoard describes  and then sell your 2005's one roll at a time, two weeks apart, never list the next one until each auction is closed. You might reel in some suckers, I mean buyer's that way and could maybe score $3 to $5 per roll, if you get multiple bidders.

I assume you are getting boxes of pennies because you are looking for copper like the rest of us.
I will trade you 3 boxes of copper pennies for your 3 boxes of 2005 pennies. That way you have a 100% copper yield with no sorting required. The 150 rolls of copper will all be machine rolled. 3 boxes of pennies fit perfectly in a medium flat rate box. |

| Tempting offer. How about for a comination of silver and copper? What do you say to $100 melt value in silver coins (halfs, dimes, nickels, etc. of any combination) + a $25 box of coppers in exchange for the 3 2005 uncirculated $25 penny boxes? Three boxes gives you a good chance of finding that perfect penny |

I ain't gonna look.. lol.
I am much heavier in copper than silver, so that is why I was looking to trade that. Some ratio of copper and silver could probably be worked out, but I don't want to bury myself in zinc. Heck I even had plenty of 09 zinc that could be worked into a trade. |
