This was sent to me, thought I'd pass it along.
"Obama phone"
https://www.safelinkwireless.com/EnrollmentPublic/Home.aspx
Your Tax Dollars hard at work !..Socialism...Dictitaion...whats next...Marxism?! this is 100% true !
Ever wonder how every school dropout has a cell phone and looks at it every three steps ? ? Here is one answer.
I want one of these and free no less...
I guess free laptop computers are next!!
I had a former employee call me earlier today inquiring about a job, and at the end of the conversation he gave me his phone number. I asked the former employee if this was a new cell phone number and he told me yes this was his "Obama phone." I asked him what an "Obama phone" was and he went on to say that welfare recipients are now eligible to receive (1) a FREE new phone and (2) approx 70 minutes of FREE minutes every month. I was a little skeptical so I Googled it and lo and behold he was telling the truth. TAX PAYER MONEY IS BEING REDISTRIBUTED TO WELFARE RECIPIENTS FOR FREE CELL PHONES. This program was started earlier this year. What next from this administration? Who is going to pay for this, and how much will it cost? Are you ready to pay for this, like you did the ‘cash for clunkers’ tax dollar giveaway?
Lifeline Benefits
Lifeline Assistance is part of a program that was created by the government to provide discounted or free telephone service to income-eligible consumers. To help bring you this important benefit, SafeLink Wireless is proud to offer Lifeline Service. Through our Lifeline Service you will receive FREE cellular service, a FREE cell phone, and FREE Minutes every month! SafeLink Wireless Service does not cost anything – there are no contracts, no recurring fees and no monthly charges.
Any Minutes you do not use will roll-over. Features such as caller ID, call waiting and voicemail are all also included with your service. If you need additional Minutes, you can buy TracFone Airtime Cards at any TracFone retailer Walmart, Walgreens, Family Dollar, etc). SafeLink Airtime Cards will be available soon.
Your exact benefits, including the number of free Minutes you will receive, depend on the state you live in. Please enter your ZIP code to get the details for your state.
How to Qualify
The process to qualify for Lifeline Service depends on the State you live in. In general, you may qualify if...
1. You already participate in other State or Federal assistance program such as Federal Public Housing Assistance, Food Stamps and Medicaid. OR 2. Your total household income is at or below 135% of the poverty guidelines set by your State and/or the Federal Government. AND 3. No one in your household currently receives Lifeline Service through another phone carrier. 4. You have a valid United States Postal Address. In order for us to ship you your free phone you must live at a residence that can receive mail from the US Post Office. Sorry, but P.O. Boxes cannot be accepted.
In addition to meeting the guidelines above you will also be required to provide proof of your participation in an assistance program, or proof of your income level.
So, how do ya'll like that...???

Interesting.
I guess nobody here objects to paying for someone that doesn't have a job to have a cell phone.
Would you object to giving them laptops ?
Do you object to subsidizing them with your hard earned tax dollars ?
The next thing we'll have is subsidized alcohol, just like Russia,to keep people drunk and happy.(only difference is, our drunks will have cell phones)
There is something really, really wrong here.

if you dont want to use the link this is a cut and paste from the rueters article
"The Lifeline program is not funded from federal taxpayer dollars, but rather from contributions to the USF by telecommunications carriers collected in part from the Universal Service Charge billed to cell phone users."
so...drop your contract and get a prepaid phone if you dont want to "participate" in the program |

and it is still a 25 year-old program...not something thought of and implemented by comrade obama
and the funding for it is still like a sales tax...if you dont want to pay it dont buy a landline or sign a contract for a cellphone...do you have such options with regard to your income tax, medicare tax or social security tax?
my phone bill shows a Federal Universal Service Fund charge of $2.68 a month or about .09 a day |

I stand corrected.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created the Lifeline program in 1984.(Ronald Reagan)
The Universal Service Fund (USF) was created by the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in 1997 to meet the goals of Universal Service as mandated by the Telecommunications Act of 1996. (Bill Clinton)
Today, TracFone Wireless, Inc., America`s leading prepaid cell phone provider, announced its launch of SafeLink Wireless in Ohio. SafeLink Wireless is the first and only completely free offering of Lifeline - a U.S. government supported program that ensures telephone service is available and affordable for eligible low-income households. It's still a tax
.
Yes, a tax that you, I and nearly everyone else must pay. We, as wage earners, have to pay for our phones, service and pay the tax. They, as recipients of these free programs have no incentive to change their way of life, nor will they ever pay federal or state taxes. quote:
