But what if the joke were to target something that we weren't so united against.

Re-read the title of this thread. It's about the Taliban.

This is really just a sad thing. How you could laugh is one of the reasons i'm offended. How can you be amused knowing there is a group of people that have never known peace. If you have kids, would you want them growing up in a place like that?

Unless I decide to convert to a radical form of Islam, I don't think my kids (when I have them) will grow up in a place like that. But what do my kids (when I have them) growing up in a place like that (which they probably won't) have to do with this thread?? I'm not seeing your point.

Laughing at America's sworn enemies is as old as our republic itself, and I'm pretty sure it's a two-way street. Are you saying we should be sensitive to the feelings of groups that want to kill us?

(The photo is from the Three Stooges' movie "You Nazty Spy," in case you were wondering.)

JobIII, I'm not saying my opinion is better than yours, I'm just trying to figure out the basis for your opinion. I'm not especially fond of the Taliban because they hate personal freedom and liberty...and they kill a lot of people just for fun. If you're saying we shouldn't poke fun at the Taliban because it will hurt their feelings, then I tend to think that would hurt the feelings of the Taliban's victims. I haven't heard of many families of 9/11 victims who worry about Bin Laden's feelings. You get my point.

Nickelless,

I should hope you feel your opinion is better than mine. Your opinion is a part of you, and only you can change it. I think poking fun is healthy and good.
I do get your point, obviously, when you suggest showing sympathy for a hated group, doesn't go well with the haters. But group think is not always the best thing esspecially when emotions are involved. You really have been misled if you think acts of desperation are ever done "just for fun".

Realcent "sensitivity" training in order?
In my opinion, some people need to grow thicker skin. Not everything is intended to be "personal".
Variety is the spice of life. Freedom of expression is what made things like this forum possible for people to come together.
Often, posts are made quickly and to the point. That makes it almost impossible to know the character, circumstance, tone and intention of a person.
Truly disappointing to see all of egocentric bickering, name calling and defensive posting.

Definitely not. Check some recent posts in the "bullion" section. There are several that like Coinstar.

I will put it out there: No one will find a topic other that has everyone on this board "united", let alone everyone in the US/CA or even a city!

There are many things the entire US/CA let alone realcenters are united on. It's only a word, what's in a word? Such a rebel.

You are misled if you think the actions are "acts of desperation". That is completely untrue also. They are probably not "just for fun" either.

You need to check your facts JobIII. "Acts of desperation" made me laugh it is so inaccurate.

I challenge you to name one.

Taliban "hatred": no. In fact there are members of the Taliban living in the United States. I'm guessing they don't dislike themselves :) Also, I personally don't hate them. And you don't sound like you hate them either. So there is an anecdotal example, and a personal example, and you yourself as an example.

I will state again: no one can come up with anything that everyone in the US is united on.

Can we say 4th generational warfare instead. Gorrila Tactics are a natural form of warfare when faced with occupation OR when badly outnumbered/gunned.

I'm definitely against that. Free money isn't free for one. It comes from somewhere or is generated by someone thereby reducing the value of other money.

Free money is what the Government has been pushing for eons and that hasn't worked very well. Working hard to earn money has worked since the dawn of man!

Also, watch "The Box" for another example of how "free money" is a very bad thing :)

Yeah, my ancestors fought for the Confederacy. But I don't see what that has to do with killing people who have sworn a jihad on our country.

YOU MAY BE CANADIAN IF:

1. You enjoy the warmer winters but you have a moral objection to global warming.

2. You own a $24,000 skidoo and $35,000 4X4, but you can't afford new snow shoes.

3. Your wife can't convince the 4th dentist to pick her toothpaste.

4. You're happy you just got indoor plumbing, and consider American's "weird"

5. You think vests come in two styles: hunting and life.

6. You can't think of anyone we've ever declared war against.. we just go and peace keep with underarmed solders.

7. You consider American television dangerous to our culture, but routinely watch it to keep up with JLow and TomKat.

8. You have nothing against women and think every man should love at least one immigrant one..

9. You've always had a crush on your neighbor's snowblower.

Hey Jade - How about sending some of that BC powderpack down here to Central CA? Our water tables are dropping fast. Silver for snow? Clever list, btw, very creative

Hoard now and hold on!

This sounds like bet. Well make it worth my while Barry. Let's make a wager out of this. How much is your position worth to you? I say there are things the US and Canadians are united on.

You can't win the bet, plus there is nothing forcing you to pay. That said, I'll put up $100 and will pay if you can prove even 1 position that is united among all Canadians or people in the United States.

All people in the United States and Canada are united on the fact that we live in North America.

–verb (used without object)

6. to become joined together or combined so as to form a single whole. North America
7. to act in concert or agreement.
8. to share a common opinion, attitude, etc.
9. to be joined by or as if by adhesion.

You should visit and live in a Middle eastern society for a while. You'll see why they're always angry and willing to die.

Totally untrue. There are extremist people that would be delighted to die in a nuclear attack against the United States.

As proof I offer those that killed themselves in the attacks during 9/11. They were delighted to die as long as they took a bunch of others with them.

Interesting but it was pretty clear we were discussing an attitude/feeling/desire/thought.

We are looking for something that everyone believes in.

I don't think that thing exists. If it does I'll pay $100. And actually do so happily since I like learning new things too!
