I found a weed eater tonight, took it home and replaced the cracked fuel lines, then replaced the cracked up prim bulb with the prim bulb off of a mower i found a few weeks ago that i couldn't fix, FIRED RIGHT UP - First Try!!

Now. to sell or keep to use?.. humm..

Last sun i found a paper shredder, took it home and plugged it up and it didn't work, i looked at it for a min and realized that it wasn't working because the shredder part has to sit on the trash can part JUST RIGHT, there is a small tab that has to be pushed in, and the plastic piece that pushes in the tab was bent, so i bent it back, now i have a perfectly good working paper spreader. lol

I always like to pick things up with resell value along with scrap metal... The stuff people throw away is crazy.

Anyone else ever have similar finds?

I've been in the railroad salvage business for 19 years, and the IT recycling business for about 10 years. I could tell stories that most would not believe. Like you said, the stuff people will throw away!

Oh the things I could list on here.....
From one trash pile 2 years ago--4400Watt Generator, plugged carb..walk behind lawn mower--fired right up...older HUGE snoblower--needed a cable.
Last year I picked up a huge snowblower called a bobKat...no not that kind, these were made in the mid to late 70's..runs great

3 weeks ago I was in a small town 10 miles away and picked up a Ford yt16H tractor. twin cylinder 16HP...carb was plugged, cables need lubed and needs new pulleys on the deck..<current project>

I could list a whole lot more.......its easier to ask me what I haven't found

We are a throwaway society all right.

The only thing I found worth mentioning was a color TV with the knobs missing. I hooked it up to a VCR and used the VCR to get the TV signal adn act as the remote control.

I just wonder, are better things thrown away in wealthier neighborhoods or do the not-so-wealthy areas generate better finds?(Sometimes those living in not-so-wealthy areas are spendthrifts worse than the wealthy.)

I change with the times-
but like silver coins found in your change
I stay the same.

Everything is tossed by the curb when it stops working.

40 yrs ago, television sets were made in the USA and cost several hundred dollars when the average person made only $100 /week. It was an expensive item that was worth repairing as needed and it would be 20 years before it made it curbside.

Today most televsions are made in China and not worth repairing and are tossed out immediately when the fail. Even expensive large screen plasma or LCD sets are so expensive to repair that it is cheaper to just buy a new set.

I find nicer things in the not-so-well-off neighborhoods.

Or at least i find more stuff.. giving it a better chance to be nicer.
