Anyone have any experience with the Penny Sorter machine being marketed on ebay for $42? I ordered one a couple of days ago. I've been hand-sorting about 3,000 an hour and this little contraption seems like a fairly inexpensive way to increase my productivity. Not ready to step up to a Ryedale yet.

you're right, just went back on ebay and it is a Penny Miser, not a Penny Sorter, thanks for the clarification. So my question at this point is do I go to the trouble of accumulating my own hoard (alright, I admit, it is fun searching and finding some old lincoln's) which is extremely time consuming, or just pay some one else for their efforts if I can pick it up as 1.5 or less with shipping included.

Hoard now and hold on!

Well, if you have a certain amount in mind that you just want for long-term investment and to put away and forget about, you can buy anywhere up to several tons from people here for around 1.3. But if you enjoy it as a hobby then there is no reason to stop the way you are doing it. Plus, when you DIY you find wheat pennies and other fun stuff.

You could do both. Sort plenty of your own.. and subsidize with a few tons from more industrialized sorters to build the hoard while the price is still cheap. How much is your time worth?

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!

I do not see how it works and looks pretty crude also. Even if it does work he won't be in business very long his price is pretty cheap. Looks like a lot of hand labor went into that box. Materials look pretty cheap. He said it works on copper being heavier than zinc so it is a balance type contraption.

Beauanderos...welcome!

Wow, you sure sort fast! It takes me about an hour to sort 200 coins by hand.

Enjoy yourself with this hobby.

I would said try both. I started by hand then brought a ryedale. I would brought a Coin Mis first if they were on the market at that time. Also glad you have join our group.

Welcome. Progress your sorting/hoarding at your desired pace of interest and pleasure.
As a side note- I do love my Ryedale!

The first panacea for a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; second is war. Both bring a temporary (and false) prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunities.

Welcome beauanderos!

I'm a Ryedale Fan Club Member! I have told Andy several times if he ever ventures into making a car...count me in. A Reydale is a tuff little machine that just keeps going and going and well worth the investment. If you are thinking about doing some serious sorting it is the only way to go.

I may try a Ryedale eventually, we'll have to see how it goes with the hand sorting and one Coin Miser. My problem right now is finding a dump bank that doesn't whine, seems they have to change the bag on their coin counter every $25. I took $380 of pennies in yesterday and it took about an hour; they're not too happy with me.

Hoard now and hold on!

That zero dollar pic is a laugh riot, how true, how true. Actually pretty pitiful (thanks Fed) but we have to laugh when we can. And, since we're all saving up copper, silver, and gold as budgets allow, maybe we'll have the last laugh after all? Now all we need is a pic of hundred dollar bills as teepee.
