I just started getting into this hobby and so far I have gotten $30 of pennies from the bank and found about $2 per $10 plus some that I had in my piggy bank.

What can I do with all my zinc pennies so I can trade them for nickles?

1. Should I use the coin star machine? (I hate the fee's, and wish they would give certificates for grocery stores like Costco)

2. My near by bank doesn't have a coin counting machine, should I take them to them anyways? Will they be annoyed?

3. Is there any other options?

Thank you.

You could always roll them back up. I did this for a while, before finding banks that have no fee coin counting machines. Some will get very annoyed, some won't. You can either roll 'em, take them to a machine that counts them (no fee / or fee), or spend them. Also try not to return coin where you just picked them up from. Unless the manager tells you it's okay. This way you won't ruin the relationship and lose the ability to purchase pennies.

Good Luck!

In my opinion it really depends on your volume. If you dont mind the coinstar fees then by all means. However I would try and speak with the bank manager and explain exactly what your intentions are. I know that some people here have moved their business accounts or some sort of account to that extent as a way to compromise with the bank manager. I use coinstar solely for ease of use and find that I make up the difference by saving the copper 82's as opposed to throwing them in the zinc pile.

8.9% is unacceptable.

I am not asking anyone to do me a favor. It is circulating currency.

Take them to a branch you do not get pennies from and tell them your having a poker game and need to buy some chips. 30 - 50 dollars worth is a reasonable request to cover this way.
