hi all,

i undertook resorting $500 this weekend, to sell some specific years to agcollector.

sooooo..

i had put the s mint in one box.

then i had to sort to the year.

68--53 coins 5.5%
69--150 15.7
70==225 24.6
71==231 24.2
72==158 16.6
73==63 6.6
74==74 7.8

so the question is this. does that agree with what others have found///

Sounds like you came out very well on your 'S' mints. Congratulations. I have never broken down my 'S' mints, mainly because I hand sort and don't get a lot of anything However, when I do get an 'S' mint, it is most often a 1969 (it seems to me, anyway). The most difficult 'S' date in the Memorial cents for me to find 'seems' to be 1972 and 1968. But again, this is based on no where near the number of pennies you 'sorted'.

I did find a 1941 S in one roll ... but that's about as close to a 1909 S VDB as I've been able to get so far

sorry, iwas un clear, .. no these did not come out of $500. more like 5000. just that i was resorting 500 fv. to pull the coins that agcollector wants. and while doing that. he wants 69, 70,72 s. so i sorted 1000 , 's' mints i had on hand.

as to wheat 's' , i might have 500 or so of them. not enough to fill a full roll of any year.

I hand sort so while sorting I pull those with an S. I have found S's to be far less plentiful than ordinary wheats. They are about as rare as 20's and earlier wheats for me. Of course Michigan is a long way from San Fransisco.

EDIT: S mints are more plentiful where I am than wheats. I hand sorted $150 recently, I got around 30 wheats, and 86 "s" mints. Its always cool to et one though. Im in north texas.

Oh, I get you know of all the S's you find those are your percentages. I found far too few s's for me to give you a break down.

I live probably the furthest away you can get from the SF Mint without leaving the lower 48 states and my total S-mint count for 10 months (100K) of sorting is:

1968 - 17
1969 - 21
1970 - 26
1971 - 15
1972 - 11
1973 - 17
1974 - 19

Total = 126

the first 50.00. i got 6.7,10, 4, 6. so headed for 66 per 100.00

I'm on the east coat and I average 3 "s" mints out of every 1000 searched. So I guess that would be 30 for every $100.00.

I don't find a whole lot of "S" cents, just a few a box, but I was just hand sorting this evening and found a 2003 S. It's not in great shape, lot of little black marks and scratchs but still shiny enough to catch my attention. Someone popped open a proof set at some point. It'll go in an extra slot in the Whitman penny folder.

Cool find. I keep hoping I can find a proof penny. The only S pennies or nickels that I have found stop at the year 1974. Nothing newer than that for me. But, I can keep hoping that one will pop out of a roll for me.

Continued success, everyone!
