I sorted 4 bags the other day. I almost struck silver twice.

The first was a 1965 quarter.

The second was a 1951 six pence.

Nice to get them, but would have been great if they had been silver.

Close. Oh so close.... Maybe next time. It'll happen.

That six pence was a cool find just the same.

It is a nice looking coin.

Nice find on the 6 Pence!

Sorry about the, "I wish I was playing horseshoes.", feeling that one happens to me more often than the, "I want to do the Happy Dance!", feeling (a lot).

There's profit if you melt things!!

Not to rain on your parade, but from what I understand the British sixpence was changed to cupronickel in 1947.

You are correct hence the title of the thread.

In both accounts silver would have been great, but I will take a qtr for a penny any day. Also as stated above, the six pence is cool none the less. It will eventually go to my youngest son compliments of the tooth fairy.

A silver dime would be cool however I would not call a 65 as being close to striking silver because if the arbitrary year the US stopped making silver 65 in steady of 64 you would have probably found a 66 instead. Still finding a dime is like find 2 wheats.
