my hometown sells the syphons for $14. andd the water barrels at ONE DOLLAR $1.00 EACH. that's right one dollar only!!! they want their citizens to be prepared!!!

What if water rationing was imposed in your community? Granted, Venezuela is a special case since they have a nutjob president, Hugo Chavez, but since water is necessary for life, put this on your radar:

I think it would be much better to set up a sort of rain-catching funnel-type device catching rainwater and feeding it directly into a barrel instead of using runoff that could leach chemicals from the roofing tile, gutters and drainpipes. There should be illustrations at some of the links above on how to set up something like this.
