Poll Question:
Let's hold a friendly debate and poll. Which metal do you perfer to invest in or just plain old hoard at this point in time? Why?

Choices:

Silver
Gold
Copper
Nickel
One or more of the big P metals
Other(s) Post in thread.
None of the above
I''m strictly a stocks and bonds person.

I am continuing to invest mainly in gold bullion at this point. It's slowly working its way up to new base levels and I think this slow rise will continue for at least the next six months.

BUT! I do like silver and will probably get some 90% in the next couple of months, especially if I can find some dimes.

No, man. You gotta keep goin'. What am I gonna do? Quit? That's not an option. Life's a garden. Dig it? You make it work for you. You never give up, man. That's my philosophy. --Joe Dirt

Accumulating P's and Base... Need to stay diversified.

Why?

Because I am not yet to my level of comfort with metals as a % of my portfolio.

I am hoarding all forms of copper. Pennies, scrap, etc. How else can you invest while digging in the dumpster?

I purfur Silver.

I can't say why but I've always been partial to silver. I just like the look I guess, although my numismatic interests might be at the root of that. I especially like the fact I can pick it up way under melt from bank rolls.

Silver is my favorite PM. The fact that available silver supplies are limited with possible shortages in the near future makes me think that silver has the potential for great appreciation. I love finding silver halves in bank rolls and bags.

Silver is my favorite. I also save copper pennies and nickels. I can't afford gold at this time. I am also hoarding copper, brass, lead and alum. scrap.

My rankings:

1. Silver - Very affordable with a great upside. Available in many forms and denominations. 90% coins could be very useful in bartering if things get bad.

2. Copper - The current 50% gain on copper pennies is basically found money. Finding wheats, IHs and AUs/BUs is icing on the cake. It doesn't have quite the upside of silver but it has absolutely no downside. Its a close second.

3. Gold - A solid option, but it takes a pretty big investment (at least $1000) to get it anywhere near spot. Good luck getting a 1/10 oz coin for less than $110. Its widespread publicity has kept its price a little high relative to silver. This limits its upside a bit.

4. Nickel - It doesn't have the upside of silver and its difficult to get at a discount like copper(at least in the U.S.), however I don't mind getting it as part of my moderate U.S. nickel hoarding operation.

I think all of the choices have their positives and negatives, so that's why I diversify.

1) Silver - great fundamentals (+), relatively volatile (-), heavy to store (-)
2) Nickel - lots of upside (+), readily available in Canada (+), difficult storage (-)
3) Palladium - way off historic highs (+), economically counterbalances gold (+), thinly traded/high premium (-)
4) Copper - available under spot! (+), storage is a big problem (-), sorting pennies is a pain in the butt (-)
5) Gold - stability and liquidity (+), good storage and transportability (+), impratical for small transactions (-)

PMs are like my girlfriends. I love them all, just in different ways and for different reasons :P

Silver is my first love, but I've been putting more money into acquiring lead recently. I don't want my Concealed Carrie to starve.

I prefer what ever I can get my hands on cheap. Even if I had money to burn, I would still want to be diversified, probably a little heavier in the Au and Ag.

I won't vote in the poll because I don't think I am qualified to participate.

My very sparse holdings are less than 300 wheats, 6 war nickels, 6 silver dimes and two 40% half dollars--these are what I have found in the almost one year that I have been searching. Kids' birthdays for the pennies are zincers. Lots of those saved so far but still lots more needed so I continue to search. Love the hunt!

Of course we should not forget my big plunge into the gold market with my 1/4 gram gold purchase here a few weeks back.

I like silver because it is being used faster than mined. And if the "greens" get solar power subsidized/mandated, I think the COMEX's shorts could show a bit.

Selling coppers- 1.4 + shipping or 11.00 90% Ag or 1/10th oz Au per 100.00, PM me!! ~100.00 (68lbs)Available~

I need to add more gold to my portfolio.

90% silver & copper pennies are the 2 that I actively hunt.

Copper pennies are the top dog for me right now.

I know that I will get some everytime I go t the bank and at face value.

I look for silver coins while at the banks but usually just buy.

Halves are heavly searched for also and can get at face.

So anytime I can pickup silver coins and copper pennies at face is a good day.

I am looking to build wealth.

90% at face = 10X increase in wealth.

Copper pennies = 1.5X increase in wealth.

Not just convert fiat into PM's(protecting wealth)

You don't have to be the BEST you just have to be.......SLICK

Hunting silver coinage all the way, like HOBO investing. I have been sorting copper pennies again but like the OP said "pain in the butt" and dumping them is worse. HH all, Mark
BTW if I'm buying then its usually gold, haven't found that gold coin in a half dollar roll yet.

It's never too late to get started. Just set aside a little money each week to buy silver or whatever metal you prefer (I have all silver and no gold, because I think silver is way underpriced relative to gold) and just keep buying on a regular basis. Each one of us on here were in your position at some point. The key is to start buying and then keep it up!

Just curious, anyone cart to admit if they were the ones who voted "none of the above"? I'd be very curious to get their perspective...
