I have a bank note that says:

TURKIYE CUMHURIYET MERKEZ BANKASI

ELLI BIN

50000

TURK LIRASI

14 OCAK 1970 TARIH VE 1211 SAYILI
KANUNA GORE CIKARILMISTIR

BASKAN BASKAN YARDIMCISI

Some of the "I"s look like a capital I but have a dot over it like a lower case in our alphabet but are the height of other letters. Some of the other letters have added symbols above or below them.

The above information would be on what I would call the front of the note along with a picture of a man. The reverse has a building on it plus some smaller people. A little more writing too on reverse.

Is this still a circulating note? Any idea of the value in US money???

Thanks for any replies and assistance.

50,000 Lira-Turkey. It was demonitized in 2005 the exchange became 100000 old lira to 1 new lira.

In unc condition it might be worth a couple bucks. But if the serial number is prefix H01-H03,
it could be worth $650 in uncirculated condition.

Info from the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. 13th edition.

LOL...from my mother-in-law who got it from her sister-in-law many years ago from travels abroad. When she had to move into an assisted living facility this summer she gave me this one bank note and a small handful of some foreign coins she had acquired over the years. She thought I would enjoy having them with my newly acquired interest in coins.

I figured it might be worth a few cents!

I wouldn't say it is in uncirculated condition, but it is in very, very good condition. The prefix is K33......

Thanks for info, everyone!

Yep, Turkish hyperinflation note. Pretty common but a good reminder of why people like PMs and copper.

And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel / For nothyng is better than lyberte / For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world.

The word 'Bin' is the Turkish word for 'Thousand'.
