I used to save NIFC's, but not anymore. I tried listing them on Ebay and actually lost money.

The circulated proofs will have a small amount of value, but other then that the clad are pretty much "throw them all back"

Unless you can save them for 75 yrs of course.

Just my 2 cents.

I save all the NIFCs I find. I put them in paper rolls by date and mint mark. It's sort of like having a little extra fiat at home.

However, unless you can find a collector friend that wants to put them in his/her collection, they are really not worth any more than 50c.

I quit saving them after they started piling up high...now keeping only '09s-have found 4 only in the last week...waiting to see what the mintage is on these-has to be incredibly low.

Keeping a few sets as mentioned above is a good idea.

"You're not really gonna throw that out...are you"?

I am keeping them for the future. Most of my coins are destined to be passed down to my daughters. I figure that when they are my age that these will have value. One other use is for trades to obtain coins I do not have.

I hoard for several reasons (like being OCD lol) but numismatics is one reason. I have decided to put away new coins in bulk now for use in the long haul.

I started collecting in 1961 and if only I had sacked away....

At worst it's a piggy bank.

Do you think that the rate of return will even keep up with inflation though? Anyone keeping clads should seriously consider using that money in a "Bank CD" which gets horrid interest but at least you are beating ZERO interest forever!

A "Bank CD" for 15 years and you have doubled your money. I would bet dimes to dollars NIFC halves which are PLENTIFUL will not be worth 2x face within 15 years.

Of course, both types of investment are terrible anyway since purchasing power will be less than current even though your raw money doubled.
