Well, because it sucks in my area of the country I opened up a box of pennies to sort and it was all LP2's...

My options, well sell it on Ebay and make what, $10 after fees, shipping, or sit on it. I don't need the capital so I don't care if sits for 10-20yrs...

THought?

I think like this. One of the reasons we have found so few '09 pennies in circulation is because they're all being hoarded by the box everywhere. I don't see there ever being a short supply of them. I think numismatically in 10 years the box will be worth about $50. Having said that, I could be wrong, inflation could cause them to be worth more dollars, but I think less purchasing power.

I don't know what kind of averages you guys are seeing. I am finding about one LP1 and 3-4 LP2s in every roll I open here. So I would say absolutely that they are circulating. After much thought, and because I missed the initial selling hayday, I have decided to keep my unopened LP1 P-mint cents. I would rather lose the $25-50 profit I could have now than see these things blow up in the future and then knowing that I let them slip through my fingers.
(I am fully aware that these boxes could go to $25. I am just going to take my chances.)

Just my two cents!

My opinion is that you missed the peak value(at least for 5 years).
May as well hold on to them for 10 or 15 years.
Me, I plan on holding mine for 50+ (if the economy hasn't collapsed) since I am also a coin collector.

09's are barely circulating around here, I just did a box dated Sept 30th and got 2 LP1, 5 LP2, and 3 LP3 in the entire box. I think they are being hoarded in large quantities and will be worth more as zinc way before the numis value would rise.

I don't think these will ever be worth much more than they are right now. Everybody is holding rolls and boxes of these, so if you are thinking 10-20 years from now, I am sure it will be pretty easy to find uncirculated rolls for very little if any premium.

Will they be worth/valued what a Au or BU 1909 (give or take a VDB or an S) is worth/valued today in a 100 years?

thats a good way to look at it computer jones! as long as there are lincoln collectors these coins will always have some value. Its the same with a lot of moderns that go up and drop down. You will never be able to retire off of it but if there is a market and you want to make a quick buck sell. If not i dont think you will loose by holding on to it. There might be a lot of rolls stashed away but there are also a lot of coins that are not and are mixed in with other years
