Hi all-

I decided I'm going to shoot for the one ton club in copper cents. I'm almost positive this has been covered previously, but about how many coppers are in one ton? The math I arrive at is about $3000 face. So, 30-$100 flat rate boxes. Ha. I average about $50 in coppers per month, so I should have this thing wrapped by 2012. Wonder how many wheats and Candadians I'll have by then...

I'll post more details as I trek!!

wags

Only when they CAN'T have it, ......THEN they'll want it.

I love Cents. If you get an UNC box, you win. If you get a regular circ. box, you win. If you get a zinc box, you don't lose....so you still win.

Good luck! Ambitious, but completely do-able.

I think I've been there (might still be there) and will be there again. It would help if I stopped selling off coins LOL.

The hard "1 ton" club to join is "nickel" :) Either $39,000 face in US nickels or $10,000 face in CA pure nickels (someone tell me if my weights are off) or a combination of the two.

I wonder how many "1 ton" nickel members there are?

How many do you think in here are in the "1 ton" club for silver? If they're in that club for gold, tell me where they live so I can get them to adopt me? BTW, Wagsthedog, congratulations and may you accomplish your worthy goal, I'm right there with ya!

Hoard now and hold on!

1 pound = 453.59237 grams 453.6 divided by 5 grams (weight of Nickle) = 90.6 to a pound X 2,000 = 181,200 nickles to a ton.
181,200 X .20 = $36,240.00 to a ton of Nickles FV. Hmm. Think I will pass on that challenge. I still like pennies #1. Palladium #2.

Nickels are worth 20 cents each now? I'm rich

I believe you'll find it's more like $9060 face value for a ton of US nickels.

$3000 face is the way I always figure it. It's not all that hard. All you have to do is write the check. Let me know when you want me to ship it. Does your postman love you?

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Let me see if I understand this? If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 years hard labor; the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinitely. If you cross the US border illegally, you get a driver’s license, a social security card, welfare, food stamps, free health care!

Barrytrot is correct - Canadian Ni Nickels are 100 to the pound X 2000 pounds = 200,000 Nickels in a ton or $10,000 face.

HoardCopperByTheTon you aint right! You must have something against the post office. You know they would just put a slip at his door and tell him he has to pick it up.

Ah. $9,060.00 is the correct number for a ton of U.S. nickles which weigh 5 grams, at least I think so, now. Sorry, as I sign, 2old. Maybe should be Braindead, or severelyburntout.

One ton is a lofty goal for hand sorting. My goal was $1000 Face and it took over 3 years and almost cost me my wife :)

The drywall cracked where I had them stored. It pays to spread them out a bit and not pile them up in a corner.

Hi all-

Thanks for all the support. I have about $75 face in copper right now, and more boxes on the way. I don't really try to accumulate copper frantically; it's more of a therapy session for me, but after days like today (gold $1080) I'm glad I'm doing this!!!!!!!

I'm definitely NOT going to collect MORE than a ton, that's for sure.

Welcome Farmall. Good luck on your 'hoarding'. Was that 42 lbs of solid copper you purchased at auction, or mixed? Was there much bidding competition for the 42 lbs?

Again, welcome to the forum ... I've sure learned a lot and know you will also.

Yeah, sure.. that's what they all say. First it's one ton.. then you want 2, then 3, then 5, then 7. Before you know it, you have a hoard! It always starts with the first ton.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

It was at a local farm auction. It was a over stuffed canvas bank bag. I could tell it weighed over 35 pounds by picking it up at the auction and got it bought for $50.00. I weighed it when I got it home and it weighed 42 pounds. It was all pre-1982.
