Can you guys help me plan out a 5x5 ft storage unit for storage? I have two stackable 35 gallon water barrels. I also plan to stock food and hygiene in 5 gallon buckets. Add to that a change of clothes (tops, bottoms, intimates, socks, and shoes/sandals). So any designers willing to help me?

How about 4x6 instead? Plywood comes in 4x8 sheets, so you would have less joints with 4x6 than with 5x5. A full sheet on the 4' sides, and 1 1/2 sheets on the 6' sides. In a shed that size, you probably want to use 2x3 for the framing instead of 2x4. You'll gain an extra 2 inches interior space in both directions.

As for actual plans, that's a little much to do here in the forum. Go to a lumber yard or home center and see if they have shed plans. Most plans will be for larger sheds, but they will show you details of how the framing should go together. You'll just need to scale it down.

Keep in mind that 35 gallons of water will weigh about 250lbs, x2 is 500lbs, so be sure to build a sturdy floor, and a good foundation.

Caridad, is this going to be your own storage unit, or will you be renting one? Renting one to store your preps is not a good idea at all. Remember: If you don't hold it, you don't own it!

Sounds like an existing space.

Oh, now I get it....

Probably the easiest, most economical and efficient way to create storage space is with shelf standards and brackets.

You must be logged in to see this link.

Available at pretty much all hardware stores and lumber yards. Much cheaper and more versatile than the fancy storage solutions. Don't let the prices on their site scare you, those are list prices for a box of ten. You can buy individual components as you need them locally.

found out my tub can hold 15 1-gallon bottles of water. so far it has four. it also has 1-3 liter bottle of soda, a few bags of rice, a bag of spaghetti, 3 cartons of tomato paste, a variety of beans (yellow split pea, lentils, and 16 bean soup). 22 ct of disposable soup bowls, 12 ct of plastic wear (reusable), 5 ct of partitioned dinner trays (all with licensed characters on them), a small bucket, a dish pan, and a food container. plus 6 ct of apple/cinnamon oatmeal, a small bottle of coffee, 20 ct of chamomile tea, etc...
