I was at a local coin store and got to talking with the owner about why I save pre-82 cents and Canadian pre-82 nickels. He said that there was a guy who came in and bought all his Canadian coins and paper money to take to Canada and spend. I said I'd give him 6 cents a piece on all the old nickels and he sorted them out for me! 116 .999s including two old kings, six kings, three rabbits, and a few BU coins.

Moral of the story - it never hurts to ask!

And he that hath lyberte ought to kepe hit wel / For nothyng is better than lyberte / For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world.

Excellent score, 40% below melt.

It takes searching through 1000 to 2000 nickels in Canada to find 116 x 100% Ni coins.

Thats pretty good.

Is there much of a market out there for .999 Ni?

What is the typical going rate?

One box of Nickels

11.65% .999 Ni

Nice!

frugalcanuck, I regularly see .999 Ni auctions go for a premium to face on eBay.

Selling rolls of ultra-rare 1956-1958 wheat pennies for a mere $5 shipped.

I often get them in lots of Canadian coins that I buy at the flea market or online. Very few people in the U.S. are aware of the metal composition of Canadian coins.

However, 116 .999 NI nickels is far better than I've ever done. Nice score!
