America is addicted to plastic! Now it's even showing up in coin rolls and bags.

Plastic pennies sell for more then copper pennies, plus they melt easier.

Post all your plastic coin finds here.

HCBTT will have the most I'm guessing. This thread is a little bit of a joke... but hey great response and quick! Realcent members love to track stuff.

1 copper colored plastic penny. Was in a CWR along with a 5 Euro and a PGA Tour token.

I buy bags as much as possible. Found flattened pennies, nickels, dimes, and today a quarter in bags off of machines.

I think that some of the fun is finding weird stuff. Once found a quarter in a roll of halves. (Fed Box)

I enjoy reading other people finds...I laugh when I find mine.

What do you mean by "plastic penny?" I mean, it's kind of self-explanatory, but I picture the small "gold" colored ones that come in packs of children's play money. Is this what you're all referring to? Some one "accidentally" put a fake plastic coin in a roll? Or are we talking mint error coins? THAT would be weird...

As far as I know, it is stated "In God We Trust" on the US dollar. How can I trust this currency if I do not believe in God?

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

When I give my two cents, they're always copper!

I found about 3 or 4 this year. One was really wierd, stamped 1984 but did not say play or replica or anything. Looked like a perfect plastic penny.

Plastic money is also made for training bank tellers, casino employees etc. You can order your own plastic pennies for $3.49 per 100 at You must be logged in to see this link. So the melt on a plastic penny is more then the melt value for a copper penny.

I should find out where hoard lives and dump a couple thousand into his penny stream. Of course he might retaliate by dumping a few tons of zinc in mine.

I've been sorting through my box of misc finds from rolls.

Found 1 plastic Canada 1 Cent with maple twigs. Face has a stylize queen and the words "School Money". Canadian plastic money has to be rarer then American plastic money!

I also found a plastic token with various Christian sayings on it.

So your boy dumped all his plastic money into circulation - that explains this thread LOL.

If you look up a few posts you can see where I posted a link to a site selling them for 3.49 cents each.

HCBTT might have it right we could collect plastic by date and mint marks.

I looked at the plastic penny I found a while back.....It is a double die.

I looked it up in the "underground" Redbook ...Plastic Mint Edition.

It is worth 9 cents in BU, Mine looks to be a G4...value = -.01

I found one the other day. A 2003 one too. The CWRs it came from were all missing one cent each too. After the eighth roll having 49 cents in it, I thought, geez, how could they justify a plastic penny too? Are people hard up for money that they would shortchange a bank a penny per roll? I guess that is an automatic 2% yield on your money. Maybe they figure they could do something like that and nobody would notice?

LOL, on the double die comment eariler. I found a plastic one last year. I like finding the odd ball stuff in the mix. It is neat to find stamped coins as well and the various world coins. I really like the starfish penny from the Bahamas.
