That's the minimum any legitimate Recycler can pay in CA. It is the CRV, which represents the return of the nickel or dime we have to pay when purchasing soda in any type of container. Of course if you just find the cans rather than purchase them, it is really a sweet deal.

If your percentages are low.. just sort more. If your percentages are high.. just sort more.

Now selling Copper pennies. 1.6x plus shipping. Limited amounts available.

This week I found 50 cv joints a small fridge had 8 lb of copper, 20 lbs of insulated wire, 2000 lbs of shred-able number 2 steel. A apple computer tomorrow will be mine to craigslist. Also a Cat-con is here and and cashed in about 75 lbs of aluminum Extrusions and Sheet. Cheers

My pool pump motor just went out on me and I kept the old motor. The guy at the pool place said I could have the other motors that were bad. Does anyone know what I could get for one or what is in it. I know the outside is steel but there is some aluminum for sure. I have yet to take it apart but I'm hoping that if someone has done this before, maybe they could give me some advice. Thanks in advance.

Many scrapyards won't accept steel fencing such as pigwire or cyclone. The posts should be recyclable. I tried recycling a few thousand pounds several years ago and was simply told that it's not recyclable. I even offered to turn it in for free rather than landfill it. I've read that it's because the wires gum up the machines, but don't know if that's true. If you have the wire fencing, I'm just recommending you call before going through the effort of loading it up.

thats correct scrap yards won't accept wire or fencing because it gets wrapped up in the shredding machine according to my local scrap yard. It sucks to load it up then have to unload it at the yard to unload everything else you sold then load it back up to carry back with you. Always call and ask ahead of time it's worth the effort!

The local yards here in Ohio will take woven wire fence as sheet metal. Most farmers are glad to get rid of the rolls of fence.

I'm real glad to see the posts about the fence. I just took down 1000' as well and was planning on scrapping it. I have several mountains of junk out back of my barn. We took down the old fence and put up a new one. Now we have two beefers out there. I can see the junk and plan on getting rid of the steel. The CU, AL and stainless I plan on setting aside until the prices go back up.

I went dumpster diving last week and scored app. 1/2 lb of old brass fittings from the heating element of what I think was a water heater.

Will you dumpster dive for scrap metal?

i dumpster dive for scrap all the time, i get atleast 30 percent of all my SM doing so. It kills me to know that the company my wife works for works with stainless steel and they put all there scaps in a dumpster on the side of the building to recycle but im not about to rip off my wifes employer.

I dumpster dive all the time. I'm not too proud to dig things out. If there was a $10.00 bill in the trash who wouldn't get it out?

Well I've browsed these forums for a few months, thought it was time I signed up!

Today's load:

132# ins. copper @ .85 lb. = $112.20
194# ACSR wire @ .12 lb. = $23.28
150# ins. copper 65% @ .75 lb. = $112.50
20# elec. motor @ .10 lb. = $2.00
900# mixed steel = $18.00

Total of $267.98

Still have tons of #1 copper and yellow brass that I'm sitting on until the prices creep up a bit more. Plus close to 100 pounds of aluminum cans (6 mo. of saving) and probably another 2-3k pounds of mixed steel in my storage unit.

I could be wrong, but after selling scrap metals for the last 46 years, I seem to have a pattern set for when I need to sell certain things to average a better price. It seems to me that June and July are usually the peak time of year for copper and brass and I try to sell during that time frame. Some years December will have a bump at the end also. That being said I hauled the bulk of my copper and brass this week. #2 copper brought $1.95 lb. mixed brass brought$1.45 lb. Electric motors brought me $.25 lb. Aluminum transformers $.15 lb. Copper transformers $.20 lb. And copper solids brought $2.00 lb. This was a very good payday.

Start grabing all the stainless you can as the price is expected to rise by years end.
