I have been thinking about sorting pre 82's for a couple of months. I recently have an opportunity to buy in sorted lots of 10,000 for $.07 a nickel. That’s $500 or 100 lb for just $700 CND. There are 10 lots available. My question is how fast can I flip these for at today’s price. I could buy all 10 lots sell 7 and keep 3 for myself. Nothing like free bullion.

If I understand you correctly you are saying you can buy .999 Canadian nickels for seven cents each (Canadian money). If so, I think you wouldn't have any problem selling them as long as you in turn offered them at a reasonable price. And buying them at that price you have a lot of wiggle room on their price and still make a great profit.

The only problem I see is the shipping cost would kill any profit. I have no idea what shipping on 1000 lbs would be but my guess is a dollar a pound min. Another option might be ebay and sell 1-5 lb lots at $9-10 a pound + shipping.

have you checked the copper cave website?

I think Nate is selling 5 lbs for 66 bucks or so.
It's a tight market, you'll do ok no matter what in my books.

Where are you located in Canada?

Fair price, but I think you may find more people in the US looking to buy them than in Canada. We don't get hit with customs charges for receiving foreign packages like you guys do, but the postage can be high. I often buy 20 pound lots and shipping from Canada to the US is a little under $30 CAD, so $1.50/pound or so. I imagine that varies by location though. We're spoiled with our flat rate boxes in the US...

You don't live near the border do you?

If so you could make a number of sells and then bring them accross and drop ship them all in one trip.

But yes, that eats into profits.

Wow, wish I had a vacation to Canada planned for this spring! :)

Melt on them currently is 9.14 US or 9.53 Canadian.

I would not sell any for less than 10 each plus freight right now.

Buy em up!

I get around the higher freight costs because I live close to the border. You could plan a vacation south and just haul them into the US to ship. Do a big presalo first. Also Canadian pennies have a market in the US. I will not sell the nickels below 10 cents each and I keep selling out.

At that price why worry about shipping?

I would hoard them.

At that quantity not everyone has the free cash on hand to hold such a purchase. What a buy though!

I have liked both of my vacations in Canada so far and am sure there will be more to come, just not for the next two years or so. We are trying to plan a big 'once in a lifetime' trip to Asia with the kids(but with 6 tickets it is going to be expensive).

Hi all, I have been a lurker here for over a year and have been casually collecting Canadian NI, CuNi and Cu. I am looking to move these out and currently have 4 boxes of Ni, 2 boxes of CuNi and 3 boxes of coppers. I am in BC Canada so the natural person to buy these might be JadeDragon?

Sorry for the thread hijack! I now return you to your regular scheduled program.

I have no market for CuNi and I just return them to the bank now. The problem is that the Americans can get CuNi at face all day long by buying US nickels.

Ni and Canadian copper yes, these I'm interested in.
