What's in your (mini) Personal ("S.A.S.") survival tin/kit?

This would be something you carry in your pocket on a short hike (in case you get lost) or a bare necessity hike/camping trip. Basically anytime you won't likely need a big pack or where you don't have the luxury of one.

Mine contains...

-pocket knife w/ 2 inch blade
-30 yards of fishing line
-3 lead sinkers
-2-3 condoms (Blown-up for a bobber/water carrying)
-magnesium fire rod
-compass
-2 single-edge razor blades (the same mentioned in the scrap metal section)
-A couple of sewing needles and a few yards of thread
-small candle, shaved square (wrapped in tin foil)
-3 water purification tablets
-10 NATO survival matches with extra striker on the inside of the lid
-whistle
-All wrapped with 550 paracord

I am thinking of coating the container with candle wax to help keep every thing dry.

What's in yours?

I would make sure the condom is non flavored or lubricated.

Are you including The Micromatic itself.

All kidding aside. My dad was the cheif of the survial equipment section when he was in the Air Force. I used to go to work with him. The kit you assembled is the same as the small survival kit he pilots carried with them. Whan they expired he would give them to me. I still have some of the pocket knives and fishing gear. They did also have a condom (Black, lubricated) included. I always, as a kid, thought that was funny.

Why lubricated? Any reason besides the obvious? :)

The only thing I can think of that the non lubricated ones have a dry powder coating. In a survival situation the lubricated kind may be more durable. I've tried to haul water in a condom. It's not easy. It would be a good idea to practice doing so before you have to. You should try your kit in a non-survival setting and work the bugs out.

I've been through AF SERE training. A lot of the training consisted of using the kits and being familiar with the gear, so you don't waste it when you need it. Man, we ate bugs, weeds slept in holes and covered ourselves with leaves and pine needles. It was quite an experience. 3 weeks. But still,I don't know if I was prepared for basic combat survival. I'm glad I never had to find out.

Also It's seems. the little kits came with a whole bottle of iodine tablets for water and other uses. The bottles were tiny and they had about a dozen tablets. They also had fish hooks and a spoon lure.

OK, ask a stupid question: What does "S.A.S." stand for?
