Just got back from my bank where I ordered 50 more bricks of nickels.

The lady looked at me like if I was crazy and told me that it would be a couple of weeks before I get them.

Pretty nice deal, I'll give them $5,000 and they will give me back $6,000 hahahahahahah.

WTSHTF it will go higher and when they stop making them as they are now still higher........love it.

What do you mean they will give you $6,000? How long does it take you to sort that many or do you just hold onto all of them?

Yeah, I'd like to understand his math better too. The bullion value of nickels is currently less than face value.

And anything else or future is just speculative.

Please elaborate Ponce.

As any old-timer on the board will attest, Ponce likes to speculate on the future.

Agreed, Ponce appears to put more stock in his own perception of value than that of the market/government. Since I have a modest stash of nickels myself, its hard for me to disagree. As for how he comes up with the actual numbers, you'd have to ask him.

Yesterday the bank called me because they wanted the money ahead of time in my account.....so I took the cash and placed it in my acount..........but.....something fishy going on because they want me to go and pick up my 50 bricks of nickels on the 16 between 2 and 4 pm.

I'll be be givin a check for the $5,000 to a neighbord of mine to go and pick it up for me and I'll give him $50.00 for one hour of work...
=====================================================================

Now then........remember Germany in 1923 when this old lady did just fine with her bath tube full of loose change?, the reason for that was that the government had 125 printing houses printing more paper fiat but none for coins so that the "old" paper fiat and the coins were of more value.

Is a brick of nickels more valuable than a $100.00 dollat bill???........you tell me......hold a one hundred dollar bill in your left hand and a brick of nickels (if you can) in your right hand and tell me which one feels more real......you can do a lot more with metal (and a lot of it) that you can with one little piece of paper.

Drill a hole in a nickel to use as a washer and then go to the store and compared the price, I guaranteed you that the one at the store will cost you at least ten cents.......I know because I already done that.

You can use nickels as a sinker for fishing or around an explosive to kill people or in a shoot gun as pellets and a lot more.......can you do the same with a $100.00 dollar bill?

Besides if anything with time the nickel will be more valuable......specially when the government starts making nickel but with no nickel in it.

In the future you will ALWAYS be able to get a $100.00 bill for your brick of nickels but you will not be able to get a brick of nickels for a $100.00 dollar bill.........remember that.

I HAVE SPOKEN......LET IT BE SO.........ufffffffffffff God Ponce is here hahahahahahaha.

They probably get the delivery by 2pm and close at 4pm. They don't want to leave it in the vault overnight because either they don't have enough space or their liability insurance has limits to the amount of change it will cover.

I'm starting to put away a few bricks myself, but mostly because I can't score penny boxes fast enough. I think this whole commodity thing is going to snowball much faster than anyone realizes. Doesn't hurt to hold a brick or two if it's affordable but, that said, I like the upside potential for the copper pennies best. I just get a kick out of the time machine effect and picking them up for free now. In a few years people will look back and wish "why didn't I think of that?"

Hoard now and hold on!

So inform us on Cuban nickels. What are they made of? What dates are found 'in the wild'? Are there any rare dates? Has the composition changed any over the years?

does your friend know how much work he will have to do? And does he have a vehicle/truck than can haul them? That has to be a pretty heavy load.

They used to use aluminum for the nickels in Cuba.........the weight of ten bricks is of 220 lbs so that fifty bricks will weight 1,100 lbs, I wil have him take it to my home....and yes,he does have a big truck.

So their bullion value is only slightly more than $1000. Are you counting totally on their numismatic value or on their supply/demand value for these to pay out?

And I don't think Aluminum would make very universal/useable washers. They wouldn't be strong enough.

Anyway, just my thoughts. I do find this whole endeavor very interesting!!! And hope to keep learning more about it.

What makes silver and gold invaluable is the fact that they are not laying around like rocks on the ground and what will make today's coins valuable is that they no longer will be minted so is not the coin themselves but rather the value that people will give it for its rarity and something that people will accept as a medium of exchange among everyone.......

nickels right now are a free option on higher copper prices and hyperinflation.

first, they won't go down below 5 cents.

second, its good to have some u.s. money outside of the banking system.

third, there is a play here longer term like the play on copper pennies. the two differences are (1) you don't have to sort, and (2) the option is not in the money now. right now the value of the nickel in a nickel coin is about 1.8 cents. if copper rises another 20% and nickel stays at least level, then a nickel will be worth a nickel. if copper and nickel rise more, then you are in the money without sorting.

of course, any fool can go to the bank and get nickels. It wasn't that long ago, summer a year ago i think, when nickels were worth 7.5 cents melt value. you couldn't sell them for a premium because of the melt ban and because there was an unlimited supply available at the bank. but if we get the sort of hyperinflation that some expect, they'll change the composition of nickels pretty quickly.

Buying:
Peace/Morgan G+ at $15.00
copper cents at 1.3X
wheat pennies at 3X

okay, I need to get it clarified.... Is Ponce in Cuba and buying Cuban nickels or what?

IT should have been obvious that that is what I had understood, but...
from another post that I read that Ponce had made, I am under the impression that he ordered 50 bricks of US nickels.

Which does make a little sense.

And YES, the value of a nickel can go down. As hyperinflation happens, what a nickel can buy becomes less and less..... until the melt ban is lifted and their intrinsic metal value becomes available.

BUT, I'm not sure that nickels will ever be traded as money if the dollar goes bust and people are bartering or another country consumes us, or..... whatever. I don't see people still holding and trading nickels as their way of buying and selling things once the dollar is 'gone with the wind.'

Just for the record, Ponce isn't in Cuba but rather at an undisclosed location in the American Northwest.

Back to the nickels. Buying those bricks are starting to look more appealing to me again given the current economic news and/or predictions. Once some type of stability re-occurs people will be looking for a system of money to expand from simple one on one trading. There isn't, nor has there ever been, anything wrong with copper, nickel or cupronickel coins as a unit of money. I believe people will use base metal coins as money since you can't inflate them and they already know what they are.

Trust Uncle Ponce since he know of what he speaks.

i was explaining why you can't get more than face for so long as there is a melt ban and the nickels are freely available at the bank. If the mint stops producing nickels or changes the composition, then that changes everything.

I've been around here for a while. BUt I guess I just don't know Ponce as well as everyone else.

It is funny to me that everyone else answers Ponce's questions for him.

What is he the Godfather or something?
