Posted - 11/26/2009 : 13:32:22 What.. you actually want us to count them? |

Posted - 11/26/2009 : 11:58:28 I voted. But I really don't have what would be called a hoard... except when compared to ALL THE PEOPLE I KNOW IN THE WORLD... outside of Realcent members, haha.
I've heard this... "A WHOLE BOX worth of pennies? And you're just KEEPING them? And tell me again why these are worth saving? You're crazy, Aaron."
So anyway, here's the deal. Plenty of people will vote. Plenty of people HAVE voted! And the amounts are just fine - because it doesn't single out the few people with the biggest hoards. How many people on the high end would vote if it actually exposed just how much they had?
Suppose there was a second poll for all the people who voted "More than 100,000." And it increased in increments of 100k up to ten million or so. Now THERE'S a poll that I think people wouldn't want to vote in.
Just my twopence worth Aaron |

Posted - 11/25/2009 : 20:43:50 There are a number of people with a $1000 in copper pennies and quite a few who sell that much on a regular basis. |

Use 2 CU's at the same time...10 miles apart.
OH YEAH...Bags are the KEY. Just pour. |

Posted - 08/29/2009 : 21:44:26 slick.. you got me beat. It takes me a little longer to run them than that.. but I don't have any helpers.. 1 man operation here.. and I still use slow machines. Heck, if I had faster machines the pennies would never last long enough.
I could probably get them prepped to dump about that fast.. but actual dumping takes longer cause I have to spread the dumps out across several branches. Plus, nobody helps me dump. How did you get your brother to help dump? That has got to be handy. |

Posted - 08/29/2009 : 21:29:29 HoardCopperByTheTon, I said that is what my 5 year old daughter does.
I can run that many a day. looks like 4000.00 or so. that is about 4.5 hours on my machines.
Dumping on the other hand could be done in 1.5hrs with my brother's help. |

Posted - 08/29/2009 : 01:11:05 I thought the range was from less than 5,000 pounds to more than 100,000 pounds (50 tons)
Even I don't pick up boxes every day.. the day job keeps cutting into my hoarding time.. but I do keep a couple of days supply on hand so I never run out of boxes to sort.

HBCTT, I sort every day, just not as many as you. 8 boxes are sorted every other Friday. All other days, just a couple of cents in loose change. Now if you are actually acquiring boxes every day, I salute you.
You'd wear your arm out in this forum. No Joke. Some unnamed individuals do pickups in the 50 box range. |

I bet you have a thin coating of Cu on some of the Pb you're hoarding!
From an economic standpoint, that stuff is probably a better long-term bet than copper pennies. Just look at the percent increase over the last couple years. And its much more liquid if you live in a state with shows. |

I hope you have no where near 10 tons if you are still in high school. Unless you already have your own place, think it through. I would hate to have leave my hoard at my parents because 10 tons would not be fun to try to move.
No...Not quite. I have about a quarter ton In a vault at a (insert relation here)'s house.

No offense but this is a really poorly designed poll.
Probably 95% of members here have over $1,000 face value hoarded. Less than that isn't a hoard it's a couple trips to the bank :)
I posted a similar pole about four months ago with a higher range (10k to 1 million) and I was told that I was aiming too low. Apparantly several members here count their copper in tons.
http://realcent.forumco.com/topic~TOPIC_ID~8639.asp
Although I don't think Barry is correct, I do believe that most here have more than 10,000 pennies. A fast handsorter can gather that much in a couple weeks.
Finally, I think these polls are helpful in matching your progress with that of others. If you feel that its too invasive then don't respond. |
