We obviously all handle large quantities of pennies and perhaps nickels. Does anyone buy rolls of other coins to look through? A few weeks ago I realized my half dollar folder was still completely empty, though I've had it for years. So I've started buying a few rolls whenever I go to the bank, if they have any. I'm wondering if general cluelessness about this denomination might lead to some real finds in bank rolls. Judging by some of the ebay auctions I've seen, a lot of people don't have any idea about the silver content of pre-1971 coins. It's been comical spending them around town- most people either don't know what they are or get all excited because they're "so rare". I've been through maybe 15 rolls- no silver, but today I did find a 2004-P, which was never released for circulation.

1993-S just found.

I started doing halves recently. Been sorting them now for about 2 months. Had a good box yesterday: 37 silver pieces (I believe 8 90%) and a very sharp 2001-S proof (second half proof I have found).

As of today I have $50 face of 40% and $10 of 90%.

Picked up 19 rolls of CWR yesterday. Edge checking looked like another skunk. Date checking yielded 3 keepers.. a gold plated 92-P, a 2007-D and a 95-S Proof. Happy with these results.. it doesn't take much to please me. Besides, the Silver Santa isn't due to visit for another week or 2.

Completely agree. Two of the four boxes I got this week were skunks. Everyone gets them. It's all about odds, and the more halves you sort, the more silver you'll get.

$1000 today, two boxes

2-90% (1 Franklin, 1 Kennedy)
1-40%

Totally agree. I just started with halves and from 4 boxes in the last 3-4 weeks: 3 90% 17 40%. Decent ROI, imo.

When I go visiting Im gonna be skipping the casinos and hitting up the banks instead. The tellers were really happy to get rid of the halves.

Im jealous too but Ive offered to pay him 7x face for them if he does want to get rid of them, he is not too computer savvy (he's 65) and wouldnt know who to sell them to Ive told him to stay away from local dealers as I know they will give him lowball offer.Hell who knows he may send them to me as a surprise for Christmas

A little dissapointed now. :(

I was averaging 5 per box until the last month. Now I am lucky to get one or two. However, I was rolling some silver that I have accumulated over the last month or so and ended up with a roll or 1964 and 1-1/2 rolls of 40%. I added it up, thats 10+ oz of silver.

If the wife is getting discouraged, you need to slip some silver into a roll every now and again for her to find.

I still cant understand how my dad keeps getting silver after sliver and he has only cashed in less than $150 worth. His latest find he had 12 Walkers in one roll alone in addition to other silver. In less than $50 he searched recently he has $30 worth of silver and he wasnt even done with the rolls. There is still $150 left of the same rolls at the bank. All that is in addition of the 33 90%ers and the 28- 40%ers he has found. I think it is due to the fact that where he lives people are not aware of the silver that could be found and there is a lot of silver in the vaults that have been left untouched for years

Oh did I forget that among those rolls there was a 1908 Barber???

patience oober - look through this thread to see how many times I've posted 3 or 4 skunks in a row and how many onesies.

oober,
Skunking is just the flp side of the coin. The other side is out there, keep looking.
as HCGBTT says if your percentages low are sort more!

I talked to my dad 2 days ago and he picked up some rolls from a local bank that had been sitting there for a long time. The bank had $200 worth of rolls in the vault but he had only $50 so he bought it and turns out he got at least $30 worth of silver including 12 Walkers, Benjamins and a lone 1908 Barber. He's going back for more this weekend...that is to add to his count of 33-90%ers and 28-40%ers. All this in less than $150 searched.

Where he lives CRH'ing is not popular and I doubt there is only but a couple of people in the entire island (hint) that do it.

Got my second 1987 today. It is a P mintmark. That and a 2002 D were basically the only things from today's $500 box I found. The only other 1987 I got from the wild was when I walked into a BoA last month and the teller sold me one. They are out there.

I assume that we are talking about the '87 half. I have found several of them. I put them in the flips and sell them for $5. I didn't grade them or anyting. I have sold 4 this way. They didn't last a week in my wife's antique booth. My wife doesn't have the booth any more. My father in law has one. I should put a couple more in there and see what happens. I will post the results if I do so.
