This thread is an attempt to prevent the complete hijacking of one of Lemon Throwers threads.

I bought a bag of pennies from a bank the other day. They said it was $100. I weighed it when I got home. 59.2#.

I figure a bag of pure zinc would weigh 55# That means that there are 4.2# additional = 1907 grams divide by .61 grams (additional weight of a copper penny) = 3125 copper pennies in the bag. That would be 31.25%

Am I right on this?

The $25 I sorted last week had a single Canadian in it--but it was copper...

Yes, I live in NY about 60 miles from the border. the number of Canadians did not suprise me as i was gueseing about 200. I was suprised that som any of them were copper. Generally, there is a higher % of steel Canadians.

Congradulatins to the winners.

Both longhorn and TenBears correctly guessed the # of Indians at zero.. but unfortunately there was no contest for that.

total coppers 2248
total wheats 20

Well stop sorting and start buying and hoarding unsorted bags and rolls now. The Ryedale will catch up real quick and you will no longer be counting exact numbers of coppers etc, just dealing in bulk pennies.

Oh and Go Canadian Copper Pennies !!! You're getting lots of those 98%ers

I've been buying 2-3 bags week and throwing them in a pile in the garage for a while now. Also, short of counting this bag, I haven't done any real sorting in over a month. Even when I get a Ryedale, I won't be a big time sorter. I can't find a bank with a counter withing 40 miles of my house. The only convenient one that I know of is 90 minutes away and that is where I get my bags for sorting. They are averaging 30-35% and do not want to mess that up.

Work has been crazy for me too, but I still managed to go through around $1150 (a few hours last night, and some today).. You need to get your priorities in order, it's only a $100 bag
